Veni, Sancte Spíritus

Pentecost Monday (or "Whit Monday") accentuates the importance of the Feast of Pentecost in the Church. The celebration of Pentecost, like Easter, begins the day prior with a Vigil. Following the feast day, the octave continues with Pentecost Monday, Pentecost Tuesday, Ember Wednesday, Thursday in Pentecost Week, Ember Friday and Ember Saturday. The Sequence is spoken at masses throughout the octave.

This period remains part of Eastertide. The Spirit comes to the Church as promised by the Risen and Ascended Lord. The coming of the Holy Ghost leads us to the one God, the Blessed Trinity, Whose feast follows the Octave of Pentecost. In the "green season" the Spirit of Christ continues to feed His Church in Word and sacrament. The Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father sends in Jesus' Name, teaches "all things". Jesus says, "He [brings] all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you." (Jn. 14)

The Spirit leads us to Jesus and His word. This is the ongoing life of the Church, which is the life of Christ in the world.
